Since getting my Canon Rebel I've been making baby steps towards better pictures. I've learned how to use settings besides "auto" and when I joined the 365 group on flickr a whole wide world opened up. But that would be nothing without photoshop. I started taking photoshop tutorials and learning how to "enhance" photos. Now, when I look at pictures in magazines I understand much more fully how much work went into making the photos look the way they look. There's not just airbrushing. There's burning and dodging and mask layers and cloning. Not to mention hue adjustments, saturation, color balance, light and contrast. One photo can take hours to get the right look and I love the art of it.
What I love more than anything is taking a pretty good photo and making it even more special. Take this picture that my best friend took while driving in Idaho.
Great photo for a point and shoot while driving. I love the low clouds and how green everything is in Idaho. I wanted to bring those clouds out, make the sky the blue I knew it was and give the trees their green. With some simple layers and adjustments I came up with this, and while it's not perfect I definitely learned.
I'm amazed every day at what I can do with my camera and photoshop. That first picture of me up top? This is the original SOOC (straight out of camera) shot.
An ok photo that I probably would have just deleted a few months ago. Here it is finished again.
Isn't that wild!? So many possibilities. Normally I don't do anything so dramatic, just little adjustments.
I can't wait to learn more and play with more pictures!

Sigh. When we upgraded our computer it came w/Vista and I can't convert my old Photoshop over. Thank goodness xmas is coming soon!
Photoshop is a pretty amazing tool, and it's no wonder why it's so damn expensive. :)
Cool!!!!
Very cool. You will have to show me how to do that stuff sometime.
Ooh I want Photoshop! I love the way you were able to bring out the color in that shot from Idaho! How fun it would be to see what I'd look like as a blonde, or a redhead... also I have a ton of photos that need tweaking.
